SORRY NO GAMES FOR 2011

Welcome to the second annual Pensacola Highland Games. Let the sights and sounds carry you to another place. As the Athletes from all over the U.S.A. come to gather in a test of strength, so do the sounds of the bagpipes as many pipe bands assemble to play for your entertainment and enjoyment. Go to the many clan tents and check out your heritage and history, or explore theirs. All the different kilts tell a story of that particular clan and what it means to them. Were they once banned from wearing them? Ask any clansmen and wait for the story to begin. You may want to purchase a kilt and even join in the Athletics. Toss the heavy stones or maybe a 19 foot (caber) pole, but it has to flip. Watch out for the pitchfork as they toss the sheaf bag high in the air between the uprights for a perfect score.

Bands at the Pensacola Highland Games

Down at the other end of the field, Irish and Scottish Dancers are performing to jigs and reels. What a beautiful sight. What endurance. What fun. Time for lunch, let’s visit the vendors and taste the Haggis or fish and chips. All sorts of pastries and pies. Shop for the unusual items at the market area like Highland attire, jewelry, knives or Adult beverages.
